Caring for Your Pretty Welsh Clay Jewellery
Our earrings and jewellery are handmade using polymer clay with stainless steel fixings (posts, hooks, and findings). With a little care, your pieces will stay looking beautiful for a long time.
Sensitive Ears & Skin
Our earring posts and hooks are stainless steel, which is widely considered a low-sensitivity metal. Many people with sensitive ears wear stainless steel comfortably. However, sensitivities vary from person to person — we recommend checking the material of the specific fixings on your piece and doing a short wear test if you are prone to reactions. We do not claim our jewellery is hypoallergenic, as individual responses differ.
Water & Daily Wear
Polymer clay is water-resistant but not waterproof. Please remove your jewellery before:
- Swimming, bathing, or showering
- Washing up or using cleaning products
- Exercising or activities where you may sweat heavily
Prolonged exposure to water can weaken adhesives and affect the finish over time.
Perfume & Chemicals
Apply perfume, hairspray, and lotions before putting on your jewellery. Chemicals in these products can dull the surface of polymer clay and affect any coatings.
Heat
Avoid leaving your jewellery in direct sunlight for extended periods or in hot environments (such as a car dashboard in summer). Excessive heat can cause polymer clay to become brittle or warp over time.
Storage
Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep pieces separate to avoid scratching — a jewellery box with individual compartments or a small pouch works well.
Cleaning
If your jewellery needs a clean, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth or a very slightly damp cloth. Do not soak, scrub, or use chemical cleaners. Pat dry immediately if any moisture is used.
